What type of improvement requires a Building permit?
Building a new home, garage, pole barn or storage shed (if larger than 200 square feet), an addition to an existing home or garage, building or replacing a porch or deck, building a swimming pool (if more than 24 inches deep), enlarging windows or door openings, removing or relocating a load bearing wall, removing and replacing shingles on a residence, replacing roof trusses.
What type of improvement does not require a Building permit?
Siding, painting, adding a second layer of shingles, installing a fence, installing patio stones or pavers.
Do I need a permit to replace my furnace or to replace/install air conditioning?
Yes – a Mechanical permit is required.
Do I need a permit to install a generator?
Yes – a Mechanical permit and an Electrical permit are required.
Do I need a permit to install a fence?
No – a Building permit is not required; however, you must follow the guidelines in the Township’s Zoning Ordinance.
Do I need a permit to install a water softener?
Yes – a Plumbing permit is required; however, if you are replacing an existing water softener, a permit is not required.
Do I need a permit to install an outdoor wood-fired furnace?
Yes – a Mechanical permit and an Electrical permit are required and you must follow the guidelines in the Township’s Zoning Ordinance.
Do I need a permit to install a swimming pool?
Yes – a Building permit is required if the depth is more than 24 inches and you must follow the guidelines in the Township’s Zoning Ordinance.
